Aldergrove Drainage Repair: A perimeter drain is a system designed to move excess water away from the foundation of a house. Aldergrove Plumber/Plumbing
Perimeter drains collect ground and surface water, and carry it a safe distance away from the building, preventing it from seeping into the basement, (preventing a wetbasement).www.septicrepairlangleybc.com
All homes have perimeter drain systems, without them, water from heavy rains or melting snow would accumulate near the foundation, eventually seepin in and causing significant damage.
Perimeter drains are also known as weeping tiles. Though actual clay tiles were once used to divert water , the "tiles " name has stuck even though tiles are no longer used. Perforated pipes are much more common nowadays.
How Do Perimeter Drains Work?
A perimeter drain includes a plastic or PVC perforated pipe installed underground around the perimeter of the house.
The perforations consist of thousands of tiny holes or slits that allow water to enter the pipe, and drain away from the foundation. The pipe is often covered by a mesh permeable sock with helps to pervent soil from getting into the pipe.
Foundation Cracks: Depending on the foundation we may use a compenation of tar and membrane: Seamless Barrier, it created a continuous unbroken layer that is effective at stopping water vapor and capillary action through porous concrete. When used for its intended purposeof dampproofing, it can last over a decade. High tensile strength, it provide resistance against enviromental factors like soil pressure.
It is then covered by layers of gravel of graduated sizes (argest close to the pipe followed by smaller gravel), and finally backfilled with soil. The gravel allows water to flow towards the drainage pipe, without allowing dirt and debris to clog it up. The weeping tile slopes away from the home and carries the water away ...
Hiring a skilled excavation operator to install perimeter drainage and slope your yard is a CRITICAL investment in your property's structural integrity and longevity. PROPER excavation-including grading, trenching, and soil stabilization - is necessary to prevent water from damaging your foundation, causing basement flooding, or turning your yard into a swampy, unusable space.
